Agri-Business and Marketing
Agribusiness and Marketing was created with the overall objective of facilitating the development of a competitive, efficient and transparent private sector driven agricultural marketing system in order to generate increased income from farming, marketing, trade and agro processing so as to contribute to poverty reduction in country.
Agriculture
The Department of Agriculture is one of the core departments in the Ministry and it is responsible for co-ordinating and overseeing the implementation of broad based agricultural policies and programmes so as to ensure that they are being implemented in accordance with national interest.
Co-operatives
Department of Cooperatives was created in the Ministry following the enactment of the Cooperative Societies Act No. 20 of 1998 and the new focus of government to re-establish and strengthen cooperatives which forms one of the main conduits for agriculture productivity, development and income generation.
Fisheries
The department oversees the implementation of the national fisheries programmes in capture fisheries management and aquaculture development. The department is also responsible for the enforcement and regulation of the Fisheries Act, and carries out research in capture fisheries management and aqua-cultural development in order to achieve a sustainable fisheries industry and economic benefits.
Human Resource and Administration
The Department of Human Resources and Administration is a common user Department which provides a age between the two divisions in the Ministry.
National Agriculture Information Service
The National Agricultural Information Services has the responsibility of supporting the Ministerial extension systems by providing media support through dissemination of agricultural information to all players in the agricultural sector, particularly the rural communities.
Policy and Planning
The Department of Policy and Planning is one of the common user departments in the Ministry, which, apart from performing its key functions also serves as a between the two Divisions in the Ministry for purposes of effective planning and co-ordination. The Department is the focal point for implementation of strategic management concepts in the ministry.
Seed Certification and Control Institute
The Seed Control and Certification Institute (SCCI) derives its mandate from the Seed Act Cap. 352 of the Laws of Zambia and is responsible for seed quality control in Zambia in order to contribute to national food security by ensuring that seed provided to farmers is of high quality and that small scale farmers are given the means to produce their own seed at the farm level.
Veterinary and Livestock
To improve the health and productive efficiency of the livestock sector in a sustainable manner and support the marketing of livestock and livestock products in order to contribute to the alleviation of poverty, food security and income generation.
Zambia Agric Research Institute
The Institute has well established research infrastructures in the nine stations scattered throughout the country and supplemented by smaller sub-stations. It is a core department in the ministry in focusing on the research functions and is in conformity with regional arrangements in the SADCC countries.
